Comment: What is a Learning Pathway?
A graphic depicting a winding path from a start symbol to a trophy, with tutorials along the way
We recommend you follow the tutorials in the order presented on this page. They have been selected to fit together and build up your knowledge step by step. If a lesson has both slides and a tutorial, we recommend you start with the slides, then proceed with the tutorial.

The Galaxy Communities Dock or Galaxy CoDex is a centralized repository that ensures the versioning and documentation of the community components (Batut et al., 2024; Nasr et al., 2024).

The codex is composed of :

The Special Interest Group (SIG) refers to a dedicated scientific community that crosses individual lab boundaries and wants to collaborate, share resources, support each other, and/or collectively advocate on a given theme. We have SIGs based on region, domain of science, and more. You might consider that a SIG covers any group of like-minded Galaxy enthusiasts not currently combined into a Working Group. Here is the list of currently existing SIGs and the microgalaxy community of practice webpage

For more information, see: Batut et al. 2024 and Nasr et al. 2024.

Description of the learning pathway:

Module 1: Create a Galaxy CoDex for your community

The aim is this learning pathway is to create a Galaxy CoDex for your community (including the lab interface). This module is composed of four tutorials :

Tutorials 1, 2 and 3 are stand alones one and they can be done in any order (or skipped altogether). Tutorial 4 requires files generated by tutorials 1, 2 and 3 so should be done last.

Time estimation: 3 hours

Learning Objectives
  • Create community reviewed resources for Galaxy tools within a specific scientific domain
  • Create a community reviewed table for Galaxy tutorials within a specific scientific domain
  • Embed the tutorial table in a community page
  • Create a community reviewed table for Galaxy workflows within a specific scientific domain
  • Embed the workflow table in a community page
Lesson Slides Hands-on Recordings
Creation of resources listing all the tools and their metadata relevant to your community
Creation of a Galaxy tutorial table for your community
Creation of resources listing Galaxy workflow for your community

Module 2: Create a Special Interest Group (SIG)

The aim is this learning pathway is to create a Special Interest Group (SIG) webpage for your community. You can see the list of currently existing SIGs for insipration.

Time estimation: 30 minutes

Learning Objectives
  • Signpost community leads and users to useful resources
  • Explain why metadata is key for such community resources
  • Provide a reference, rather than a tutorial
Lesson Slides Hands-on Recordings
Creating community content
